How the Estimate Is Calculated
This calculator uses the standard metabolic equivalent (MET) method. One MET is the energy cost of sitting quietly. The formula is:
Multiply that by total minutes of activity. The 3.5 reflects average resting oxygen consumption (3.5 ml O₂/kg/min), and 200 converts the result to kcal per minute. For a 70 kg person doing basic stability work at 2.8 MET, calories per minute equal 2.8 × 3.5 × 70 ÷ 200 = 3.43, so a 30-minute session burns about 103 kcal. MET values are adapted from the Compendium of Physical Activities.
