The Math Behind the Step Equivalent

This calculator uses a simple energy-based conversion. First, it estimates calories burned with the standard MET formula:

Calories = MET × body weight (kg) × time (minutes) × 0.0175

MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task. One MET is the energy you burn sitting quietly; a MET of 5 means you are using five times that resting rate. Because baseball is intermittent — bursts of sprinting, throwing, and standing — the MET varies depending on how active you really are.
